The answer is straightforward and revealing: we don’t participate in the primary process. We never have. Our party nominates candidates through direct convention and places them on the November general election ballot. That is how a genuine alternative operates under Michigan law for qualified minor parties.
The ballots going out now are not some neutral exercise in a political process. They are the public machinery of the two major parties, administered, funded, and hyped by the state, designed to ensure the Democrat-Republican duopoly remains unchallenged. The structure and the psychology of these primaries work hand-in-hand to entrench that system for months before voters ever cast a general election ballot.
James applied for approximately $1 million in state funds for his campaign.
Perry offered valuable consideration for endorsement.
The Structure: A Taxpayer-Funded Head Start for the Insiders
Michigan runs open primaries. Any registered voter can choose a Democratic or Republican ballot. The state funds candidates (benefiting unelected bureaucrats) prints the ballots, runs the elections, counts the votes, and publicizes the results.
Candidates from the two major parties get months of free media exposure, name recognition, and organizational infrastructure paid for, in significant part, by the public. Debates, ads, yard signs, and endless coverage treat the primary as the real contest.
